Leaving Your Business -The Right Way

~How I’ll run away and get the reboot I need to come back better than ever

After a 4-year COVID hiatus, our family is heading out on vacation.  Now if you’ve been around for a while, you’re probably thinking that we’re off to Orlando to ride roller coasters.  Well, you’d be partly right.  We will ride roller coasters for a few days, but only after eating croissants and cheese under the Eiffel Tower.  OMG yes – we’re headed to Paris!  We land Valentine’s Day (so romantic, right?!), and are there for almost two weeks, ending with a few days at Disneyland Paris…cause it is US after all.

Leaving my business for almost two weeks can be daunting, as I’m sure many of you experience when you’ve done so as well.  The fear of things falling apart in your absence can be overwhelming. But hey, we work hard, and we deserve a break!  Here’s what I’m doing to prepare so I can get over my overwhelm and truly ENJOY myself.

PLAN AHEAD LIKE A PRO

The key to a worry-free escape is proper planning. It all starts with a clear roadmap:

Set Expectations: Communicate with your clients or customers well in advance about your upcoming absence. Be honest and transparent about your plans and the duration of your break. They'll appreciate your honesty.

Delegate Responsibilities: If you have a team or colleagues who can help, delegate tasks and responsibilities to ensure the business runs smoothly in your absence. Trust your team; they've got your back.

Automate What You Can: Thanks to modern technology, many aspects of your business can be automated. Schedule social media posts, set up automated email responses, and use invoicing software to handle financial matters seamlessly.

Emergency Plan: Have a contingency plan in place for any unexpected emergencies. Share this plan with someone you trust who can step in if needed.

FINANCIAL PEACE OF MIND

As someone passionate about removing financial anxiety, I've got your back when it comes to managing your finances during your absence:

Budget for Your Trip: Before you go, make a clear budget for your trip. Include all expenses, from flights and accommodations to food and activities. Knowing your financial boundaries will help you relax and enjoy your time away.

Cash Flow Management: Keep a close eye on your cash flow before and during your trip. Ensure you have enough liquidity to cover any unexpected expenses that may arise.

Emergency Fund: Always have an emergency fund set aside for unexpected business expenses or personal emergencies. It's your safety net in times of need.

Stay Informed: Use apps and online banking to stay informed about your financial transactions while you're away. This way, you can quickly address any issues that may arise.

ENJOY YOUR TIME AWAY

Remember, the whole point of taking a break is to recharge and rejuvenate. You've set up your business for success, so trust the systems and plans you've put in place. Enjoy your trip to Paris, or wherever your adventure takes you, with the confidence that your business is in capable hands.

As creative entrepreneurs, we are not only dreamers but also doers. It's important to take a step back and celebrate our hard work and achievements. Leaving your business behind (the right way) is not only possible but essential for your well-being. Plan ahead, manage your finances wisely, and trust the process. Bon voyage and enjoy your well-deserved break! Your business will be waiting for you when you return, refreshed, energized, and full of new ideas.
